This is supposed to prevent attempted attacks through this vulnerability until the vulnerability patching forever. But the team of the Microsoft Security Response Center (MSRC) still needs time to find a sustainable solution.

On 16 July, Microsoft had issued a bulletin warning about a vulnerability in Windows Shell.

Through shortcut files, an attacker can execute arbitrary code and take control of a remote machine without the knowledge of its user.

IBM announced Thursday that the workstations of its 400,000 employees would henceforth adopt Firefox as default browser, instead of Internet Explorer. This decision is logical too, according to Big Blue, the open source model and independent of Firefox, standards compliance and its ability to function identically on heterogeneous environments, the machine that hosts both Windows, Linux or Mac OS .

Firefox has thus joined the list of other recommended software with IBM’s internal course Lotus Notes, Lotus Sametime and Lotus Symphony office suite available for free to all and based on OpenOffice.org.

Vice President Open Source and Linux at IBM, Bob Sutor justifies this choice by the character of Firefoxopen source and development by an international community that is ” not beholden to any commercial entity . Other reasons relate to the compatibility with open standards that will be very important to IBM’s cloud computing, security, opportunities for customization. Finally, Bob Sutor believes that Firefox is an innovative product that stimulates competition.

For Bob Sutor, Firefox is “the gold standard of what a browser open, secure and standards compliant should be . A beautiful declaration of love that will warm the heart of Mozilla, while the global market share of Firefox just now to make progress.

It must be said that with Google Chrome in particular, competition is strong, but for IBM, Firefox seems to always be able to catch any gaps that might acknowledge. A first beta of Firefox 4.0 is also expected shortly before a final version by the end of the year.

IBM could be a catalyst example for other companies looking to move away from proprietary technologies and are looking for an alternative to Internet Explorer

The publisher Opera Software today announced the availability of its browser Opera final version 10.60 which is two times faster than the previous version 10.60. Opera is also more stable and more secure.

Once again it is the JavaScript runtime engine has been reworked to be more efficient on web applications particularly rich. Besides some cosmetic changes, the developers have implemented certain features of HTML5 as the programming interfaces to geo-location to return search results more relevant. For its part AppCache allows caching of data for the use of a service-enabled web offline.

Remember also that the software loads the container Webm mixing VP8 video codec and Vorbis for audio.

So if the final version of Opera 10.60 replace Google as default search engine, Bing also finds its place alongside Yahoo, Amazon and Wikipedia. The software also incorporates an anti-fraud and anti-phishing compatible with AVG. The black list of threats is thus updated in real time. This directory is based on the detection system of fraudulent sites established by the Russian company Yandex.

After the Chinese attack, Google hastens the movement of shifting their machines to Mac OS X and Linux which are deemed more secure. The 10,000 employees of Google now have to change their work habits? The Financial Times understands that the Mountain View officials want to get rid of Microsoft products, which first relay on Windows.

This initiative has been decided for safety reasons according to evidence gathered by the British daily from Google employees. The company would have resented the attack on its information system from China raised in January. Besides the Chinese government, Google points to the flaws of Windows. Since then, employees have begun to migrate to Mac OS X and Linux.

Windows is indeed deemed to be more vulnerable than Mac OS X or Linux ( reputation regularly challenged ). The operating system of Microsoft, however, continues to be supported in Mountain View. Either it is an employee’s personal laptop, or under the condition that the user has sufficient knowledge of high security and promises that the usage will not endanger the office of the company. In all cases, the use of Windows now requires the approval of the CIO .

It remains to what extent the Chinese attack is not merely a pretext to accelerate the adoption of house tools. Google is developing include Chrome OS , an operating system derived from the Chrome browser, designed rather to mobile but may well apply to fixed lines provided that the necessary applications with the productivity of employees can be found online.

A new OS for the announced end of the year could more than to compete with Windows OS enterprise version of Chrome is also under preparation. This will include features of network administration and should be released in 2011. Remain there while one running Windows in the offices of Google?

Microsoft is providing an easy option for netbook owners to install the new Windows 7 Operating System by using a USB drive or DVD
.
Netbook users can use Microsoft’s newly revamped online store to download Windows 7 for Netbooks onto a bootable USB, or burn it onto a DVD. Install the tool, and open, it will ask you for the location of the ISO file. The utility, Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool, creates a bootable flash drive for both USB and DVD from a downloaded .iso file, or disk image, of Windows 7, that can be used to install OS. The ISO file contains all the Windows 7 installation files combined into a single uncompressed file.

Insert the USB flash drive into USB port or insert DVD into your DVD drive and run Setup.exe from the root folder on the drive, to install Windows 7. The WUDT will work with PCs already running Windows XP or Vista. However, there are also some caveats for netbook users looking to take the USB route. Microsoft spokesperson Brandon LeBlanc wrote in an Oct. 22 entry on The Windows Blog describing about the WUDT.
Requirements:
•	Users need a 4GB USB drive to install Windows 7 on a PC without an optical drive,
•	.NET Framework 2.0 or later, and the ability to run as administrator on the to-be-upgraded netbook.
•	The netbook’s BIOS must also be modified to set the boot order so that the USB drive is first on the list.

A ‘clean’ install is recommended from Windows XP, which is termed as ‘custom’ installation so before proceeding for the installation users need to backup data and application settings and reinstall them after installing Windows 7.

Microsoft has done pretty much to offer window 7, a version capable of making itself favorite among folks. Microsoft went up to the mark on the recent survey conducted by chip giant, Intel citing the performance of the new version. Intel stayed to Window XP and preferred waiting an output like Window 7 rather than supporting the last version of windows Vista earlier.

“The value of PC Refreshes with Microsoft Windows 7” described Intel’s experience after an extensive three-month evaluation of the operating systems.

Window 7 when installed with Intel vPro technology renders best performance, manageability, and security complimenting the technology to improve PC management.

Intel’s evaluation included three types of data:

Empirical data– Intel IT lab performance tests measuring performance with common Intel user tasks and other measures such as the number of blue screens.
Subjective data– As part of our evaluation, we deployed Microsoft Windows 7 beta on notebooks to 300 early users from different Intel groups including manufacturing, marketing, product groups, human resources, and IT. We surveyed these users to assess their experience.
TCO data–A conservative initial financial analysis assessed the impact of Microsoft Windows 7 on client TCO.

Key result of Intel It evaluation:

User Adoption	97 percent of early users said they would recommend Microsoft Windows 7 to colleagues.
Performance	More responsive for key tasks such as booting and launching productivity applications.
Stability	Fewer users experienced blue screens.
Application Readiness	No remediation required during evaluation; application readiness does not appear to be a roadblock to adoption.
Total Cost of Ownership Initial estimate of potential USD 11 million net present values.

Intel has decided to deploy window 7 on the new PCs with Intel vPro technology only by the first quarter of 2010.

Ford Motor Co., Continental Airlines Inc., Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. were other in line with Intel Corp. who would help introduce Windows 7 operating system by upgrading to the new program.

Case was filed in by Uniloc against Microsoft in federal court in Rhode Island in 2003, seizing Microsoft ran afoul the patents of Uniloc by using their security software illegally to prevent unlicensed use of its Windows XP operating system and Microsoft Office productivity suite.

The Tuesday ruling turned the case in Microsoft favor cancelling April jury verdict and invalidating it from the largest patent award ever recorded.

Microsoft achieves victory in the case after long hearings of six years. Although Microsoft won the case in 2007 in Rhode Island Court but Uniloc then appealed to U.S. District court for Federal Circuit where jury found Microsoft guilty and imposed them to pay a patent-law record $388 million. Finally on Tuesday U.S. judgment stamped the result in Microsoft favor.

“We are pleased that the court has vacated the jury verdict and entered judgment in favor of Microsoft,” spokesman Kevin Kutz said on the occasion.

Microsoft on Tuesday unveiled a business model for its forthcoming Windows Azure “cloud” operating system. In a departure from its previous practices, the company will allow customers to pay for Azure on a per-use basis.

The software maker announced a variety of plans, including one that charges purely on consumption and another that offers discounted rates for those that agree to a six-month commitment.

The company has said it will charge $0.12 per compute hour for its Windows Azure Compute. Amazon’s price for an on demand Windows instance starts at $0.125.

SQL Azure is split into two editions: the Web version is priced at $9.99 per month for a 1GB database, while the Business edition is $99.99 per month for a 10GB database.

Azure is Microsoft’s platform for delivering software and services to customers over the Web. Ultimately, the software maker will use Azure as the base for cloud offerings such as Exchange Online and SharePoint Online. “Over time, we’ll make more and more use of Azure’s platform services, such as storage and compute,” said Microsoft senior VP Chris Capossela, in an interview.

Mark Taylor, director of developer and platform evangelism, said that “In the first half of the next calendar year, we are going to talk about international availability – about additional data centres and about additional countries that Azure will be available in.”
