Direct Internet and Twitter on space :- The crew of the International Space Station obtained direct Internet access for the first time . U.S. astronaut Timothy Creamer for the first time sent a short message on Twitter from the International Space Station (ISS).

“Hello Twitterverse!,” “We r now LIVE tweeting from the International Space Station—the 1st live tweet from Space! ,” Creamer said.

“More soon, send your ?s,” added Creamer, who had more than 5,000 followers as of Friday afternoon.

The tweet means “Hello, Universe of Twitter,” wrote Creamer, identified with the name Astro_TJ. With a series of abbreviations and symbols of facial gestures, known as “emoticons” Creamer wrote something equivalent to “We now live, chirping from the International Space Station – the first trill live from space! –. Soon, send your questions.
The crew members were for the first time got direct access to the Internet last week. Creamer had already told the preparations before flying into space ( before Christmas) under his name Astro_TJ twitter.

The space station resident, Timothy Creamer, has worked with flight controllers and to provide internet access at the orbital outpost since last month, when he moved.

More than 14,700 people are paid to the communication network. Besides the American astronaut on board the ISS crew has Jeff Williams, Russians Oleg Kotov and Maxim Surajev and Japanese Soichi Noguchi.

The crew of the International Space Station can now use a laptop on board to reach a desktop computer system at Mission Control, surfing the web accordingly. This remote access to the internet is possible when there is a strong and rapid signal communication.

The acess to twitter and internet is expected to raise the moral achievement of the crew, “The astronauts that last a long time in space spend months away from family and friends. It is a unique state of isolation,” said NASA spokesman Kelly Humphries. ”We hope that this improves morale and productivity.”

Astronauts eventually have internet access in space. According to the website of NASA, “Astronauts on board the International Space Station received a special software upgrade this week – personal access to the Internet and the World Wide Web via the ultimate wireless connection.” This is one giant leap for the Internet.

Expedition 22 Flight Engineer T.J. Creamer made first use of the new system early morning on Jan, 22, 2010, when he posted the first single-handed update to his Twitter account, @Astro_TJ, from the space station. Tweets from space, previously had to be e-mailed to the ground where support personnel posted them to the astronaut’s Twitter account.

T.J. Creamer said in his first tweet early this morning, “Hello Twitterverse! We r now LIVE tweeting from the International Space Station — the 1st live tweet from Space! More soon, send your ?s,”

The personal Web access, named the Crew Support LAN, capitalizes of existing communication links to and from the station and gives astronauts the aptitude to browse and use the Web. Direct private communications will provide astronauts to enhance their quality of life during long-duration missions by aiding to ease the seclusion associated with life in a closed environment.

As per the site of NASA, “During periods when the station is actively communicating with the ground using high-speed Ku-band communications, the crew will have remote access to the Internet via a ground computer. The crew will view the desktop of the ground computer using an onboard laptop and interact remotely with their keyboard touchpad.”
