Gmail now interconnect you with telephone lines like Skype

Like Skype, the communications module right inside Gmail is now interconnect its users with traditional telephone lines. A feature currently restricted to U.S. users.

The web application of Google i.e. Gmail now includes a communication module that enables instant chat in real time via keyboard, voice or video. This feature is now available for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux.

The company gives users the ability to call landlines or mobile directly from the communication module .Google is following the step of industry giants like Skype, which already offers such services. This feature will soon be available for users of American Gmail account with a classic. They can call the United States and Canada for free (at least until the end of the year), and others are available at relatively low rates.

The company skype has informed via its blog t that they have started making their new SkypeKit software developer kit (SDK) which is now available for download bt currently is in its beta version . The blog also informs that with the addition of skypekit every connected device can become a communications device, In the same manner , desktop applications everywhere can now include Skype.

The SkypeKit is currently available in Beta mode and can acquire by invitation only. The blog also informed that . “SkypeKit for consumer electronic device makers will be available tomorrow, June 23, based on the Linux OS. For desktop software developers, SkypeKit will be available for Windows and Mac in the next few weeks.”

The SkypeKit will incorporates robust set of APIs for a variety of popular Skype features, including voice and video calling and instant messaging.

The skypekit will also be able to deliver Skype’s signature super wideband audio, based on the SILK codec. In addition, developers who use SkypeKit will be able to describe them as plugged into Skype.

Google Voice search big display: Droid promotion on Black friday

Google and Verizon are bringing another unique idea for promoting its recently launch Droid on the occasion of Black Friday. Teaming with Reuters and R/GA, Google and Verizon are displaying the Times Square’s largest combined displays — the Reuters Sign and the NASDAQ sign for voice search.

On Black Friday anyone calling 888-376-4336 and doing a Google search by voice will see their results displayed on one of the two electronic billboards of either the Reuters sign or the NASDAQ sign in Times Square.

Though the promotion has actually been going on for the past couple of weeks in New York, from 12:30-2:00pm or 6:30-8:00pm but on Black Friday it will be active for 20 hours straight according to Google blogpost.

Google and Verizon have even launched a web page with a countdown to the event in the promotion of Motorola droid.
