Google , the internet search engine giant is testing a new search engine that brings together research on the Internet and on television, reported by the U.S based newspaper, The Wall Street Journal. The report said it obtained the information by people familiar with the business.

The service will operate on televisions using a set-top box (decoder) that contains Google software. User can search for programs on TV service via satellite, just as with video site YouTube, and will be able to customize their schedule, from the results selected in the search.

The set top box is a device that decodes the received signals (eg, satellite), transforming them into images to be transmitted on TV.

“With the test, Google goes deeper into an industry full of companies, large and small, who have been trying for years to marry the web and TV and their business models – from rivals Microsoft and Apple to manufacturers of television sets and set top boxes, “the newspaper said.
