Announced in May 2009, the Nehalem-EX processor from Intel will make its commercial debut in a few days. It is designed for high-end servers can handle eight cores and four memory channels. Each heart can run two streams (threads) simultaneously which makes a total of 64 virtual cores.

Intel did not release the clock speeds but indicates that the processor includes 2.3 billion transistors. The Nehalem architecture integrates the memory controller and QuickPath Interconnect technology that makes connections between interconnection hearts. On the market, the Nehalem-EX will face and AMD processor 12-core Magny Cours. It is not yet cleared that the processor is burned at 45 nanometres (1 nm = 10^-9m) allowing the core to manage two tasks at a time for data treatment and up to sixteen simultaneous tasks.

IBM outpaced its competitors by announcing that three of its servers eX5 (X5 System x3850, System X3690 X5 and BladeCenter HX5) will be equipped with Nehalem-EX.
