Pakistan will restore in the coming days access to websites Facebook and YouTube, but not on pages with content deemed “blasphemous” , the sites were blocked already for the last four days, said Wednesday the Ministry of Interior.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has blocked Saturday by order of the government access to Facebook, YouTube , and some 800 other links, and restricted access to sites such as Wikipedia. If access to Facebook or YouTube will be restored, the other pages to content deemed “blasphemous,” will remain blocked, “said Interior Minister, Rehman Malik.

The Pakistani government blocked Facebook and YouTube and the Reason for this is the internet hype “Draw Muhammad Day ‘. On Wednesday the Pakistani government blocked as some users urged to make Muhammad Cartoons. But it threw oil on the fire in no time surfaced protest pages, movies and even on websites.

Pakistan reacts now to the relevant websites, including YouTube, even blocking. On Friday, a hearing that determines whether the censorship or not be lifted.

Draw Muhammad Day :

Thursday, May 20 was the world as Muhammad Draw Day: the day (amateur) cartoonists worldwide massive images of the Prophet Muhammad would make. That action was in protest against a South Park Episode censored life invoked.
The channel Comedy Central was heavily censored after that episode, creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker had received death threats. Ironically, it was because both 200 and 201 episode ridiculed the fact that you cannot depict Mohammed.

Founders intimidated:

Both the website and the Facebook page which were encouraged to draw Mohammed, have now been taken offline.Molly Norris, a woman from Seattle was the founder of www.drawmuhammadday.com . She was also afraid to see the reaction .The Facebook page where hundreds of cartoons on Thursday appeared, followed Mollys example and is no longer available. The ban will remain on this because the content deemed “blasphemous”.

Now Pakistan’s Interior Minister Rehman Malik who is not able to log on to Facebook where he had a long list of fans joined Twitter .

He said to Reuters that “Only a few days back I came in (as a Twitter user). I like it,”. “There are lots of questions, are you real, are you fake?” Malik also clarified that in few days he had more than 270 followers. Malik believes in Open mindedness and freely engages with his followers and fans on Twitter now.

Google caused a stir with the press in Spain to compare the country to Iran and China, putting it among the nations that apply Internet censorship.

In a hearing before the Foreign Relations Committee of the House of Representatives United States of America in Washington on Wednesday, the vice president of Google, Nicole Wong, cited the ban on blogs calling for the boycott of products of Catalonia – determined by a Spanish judge – as an example of censorship.

“We suffered a blockage in China, Spain, India, Pakistan, Iran, Myanmar and Ethiopia,” said Wong. “Google has been a habitual focus of government efforts to limit freedom of expression because our technologies and services allow people connected to the internet speak to a worldwide audience.”

You Tube is blocked in 12 countries, the most popular video service, Internet, owned by Google. In the Spanish case censorship, according to vice president of Google, occurs in the service of Blogspot blogs. Already Saudi Arabia, Iran and UAE were cited as countries that criticized the social network Orkut.

On day 2, the Subcommittee on Human Rights of the Senate, Google had mentioned Spain as a country that practices censorship.

The newspaper El Pais saidthey contacted with Google, the Spanish office issued a statement saying that although it actually occurred censorship to blogs, this is an isolated incident. “We have no problems with Spain with regard to freedom of expression,” the statement said.

“That did not stop Google from against Spain, without presenting any evidence, as a country where censorship is practiced the web”, criticized the newspaper on Thursday. “Several countries, media and news services have echoed this complaint, naming Spain in their texts.
