Get Review of Nokia N900 – This year’s Nokia N900 is the most publicized phone, running on the Linux based Maemo OS. According to the recent news, it has been stated by Nokia that it could make move from Symbian to Maemo for all of its smartphones and would not come as a letdown. Just like the fresh air, Nokia has bring out Linux based Maemo platform cell phone this time.

Most probably, the hardware of the mobile had not won any design awards as its a little bit squatty. The huge bulk of the phone i.e. 59.8mmx18mmx110.9mm WDH and 181g is ascribable due to the sliding QWERTY keyboard that is quite discouraging. The screen size is comparatively small, hence the keys too. There is no space at all between the keys and it really makes difficult to type anything on it.

Instead of Symbian, the widget based interface is more like the iPhone or Android’s home screens. Along with customizing widgets, you can also select a shortcut or a web bookmark too in the phone. One of the biggest positive features of Nokia N900 is, it has been constructed in a way that it can host vast number of applications at a time and running all of them together. More successful panorama of Maemo 5 OS is the application switcher.

More strong and powerful feature of N900 is its ARM Cortex A8 600 MHz processor. Although, the OS assures much space on the cell phone has been reserved for running applications smoothly that makes it a success. Every single element is more like an application than a function, as Maemo is built upon applications model.

Other preinstalled extras involve a weather app, which is easy to use and detailed feature just like an iPhone paid for app and Ovi suite of extras involving maps, mail and a shortcut to the Ovi store and also Facebook, which grants you to envision your friend feeds directly from the home screen.

Nokia has always managed to use a crisp, clean, bright and high resolution screen on its flagship phone sets comprised with 800×480 pixels and 3.5 inch screen size. The screen is astounding and stunning. Focusing on multimedia features, the camera is awesome and magnificent. It can capture clear and crisp images. The dual LED flash is used for highlighting dark images. It’s been concealed behind a slide lens cap, which means dust will not stuck on the lenses and scratches will be prevented.

On the first note, Nokia’s N900 is a highly successful handset that came in the market. It is full packaged smartphone comprised with speedy multitasking, complete range of applications desired, big screen and large storage capacity. The only things which slightly letdown in the handset are it’s less than pocket able size and shirk keyboard.

Apple has occupied the top most position in terms of operating profits generated by its handsets. Apple has acquired the position with its single handset iPhones swapping Nokia to the second number.

According to the report released by Strategy Analytics Apple’s iPhone earned $1.6 billion whereas Nokia recorded $1.1 billion operating profit in the last financial quarter.

“With strong volumes, high wholesale prices and tight cost controls, the PC vendor has successfully broken into the mobile phone market in just two years,” said Strategy Analytics analyst Alex Spektor.

Nokia still maintain its place as the top mobile phone maker as on account Apple sold only 7.4 million iPhones around the world in the quarter, compared to Nokia’s 16.4 million.

Apple stands over Nokia as its iPhone carries a much higher profit margin on its handsets than competitors and Nokia’s margins were hit hard by both the economic downturn and a stagnant presence in the U.S.

Nokia could view launch of N900, its first Linux Maemo OS as the hope to regain its supremacy in the marketshare, though it would be little tough competing with iphone and now Google’s Android-based phones.
