Facebook and LinkedIn join to give strong competition to Yahoo, facebook launched a “question and answer” product, called Facebook Questions(Facebook Q & A). Although this type of product on the network is not unique, but more than 500 million users of Facebook will definitely get interested in this new approach .It may also create opportunities for small businesses.

Facebook Questions is still in beta, Facebook Questions will also be integrated in the Facebook page, users can use the page to ask their “problem” tag question directly, the administrator or the fans will answer these questions.

LinkedIn experience

LinkedIn similar products have proved to answer your business-related issues. It is a good way to meet new partners. Facebook Questions have excellent tools and network size. Click nowon the “problem” link located in the left navigation column of Facebook, you can see your interest in the problems that may be from your friends or friends of friends asked for.

In order to see the relationship between you and the most problems, you need to ensure that personal information listed in your interests, and these interests should be the core of your industry competitiveness consistent. There are also other ways to find relevant issues, such as manually enter a subject or select a topic trends.

It you find interesting question, the important point is that you can answer the questions as part of the business. In other words, if you are from for XYZ Corporation and Created a Facebook page, you will be able to get the identity as XYZ corporation (rather than individual identity) to answer the question on Facebook Questions. This will allow the questioner to see the problem, or any other person access to your Facebook page, can not access your personal information.

Room for improvement

On Facebook page you can ask questions to administrator also, these issues will be in your news feed page and fans display. Therefore, link state updates and news to share is a new way to communicate with the fans. Facebook is also indexed to these issues (problems on the site are visible to everyone), which means that other users can find the problem and to find your business. Unfortunately, these problems do not appear in your personal information Wall, which is Facebook Questions still need to address several usability problems.

The number of users does not mean its success

Now discuss the use of Facebook Questions . Large user base does not guarantee that users will welcome the new product to be used. Google Buzz failure is a typical example: While Google has millions of Gmail users, but Google Buzz launched few months ago got flat response. However, “questions and answer” type of products likely to attract both old and user participation, users may also give rise to new interest, so you should pay attention to Facebook Questions can bring you business.

You can very soon have FBI agents in your buddy list, without even letting you know! Yes that’s exactly what this document says.

According to an internal Justice Department document that offers brief of issues related to privacy and crime-fighting, U.S. law enforcement agents are following the rest of the Internet world into popular social-networking sites with the likes of Facebook, MySpace LinkedIn and Twitter going undercover with false online profiles to communicate with suspects and collect information.

A San Francisco-based civil liberties group, the Electronic Frontier Foundation obtained the Justice Department document.

It describes the importance of social networking services to U.S. authorities.

The document confirms that FBI agents were already logging through fake profiles to exchange messages with suspects, identify a target’s friends or relatives and browse details such as postings, personal photographs.

In a strategy known as “deconfliction”, state and local police coordinate their online activities with the Secret Service, FBI and other federal agencies keeping out of each other’s way.

The document, part of a presentation given in August by top cybercrime officials, described the value of Facebook, Twitter and other social-networking sites to government investigators though it did not elaborate on the boundaries for using them.

Justice Department officials reported that such investigations on social-networking services are legal and governed by internal rules But they would not say what those rules are.

A former U.S. cybersecurity prosecutor, Marc Zwillinger, informed that investigators should be able to go undercover in the online world the same way they did in the real world though within limits.

Zwillinger also added that the new situation presents a need for careful oversight so that law enforcement did not use social networking to intrude on some of our most personal relationships.

The Justice document describes how Facebook, MySpace and Twitter have interacted with federal investigators.

The government found Facebook cooperative with emergeny requests.

MySpace preserves information about its users indefinitely and even stores data from deleted accounts for one year. But Twitter’s lawyers tell prosecutors they need a warrant or subpoena before the company turns over customer information, the document says.

The chief security officer for MySpace, Hemanshu Nigam, said that MySpace did’nt want to be the company that stands in the way of an investigation, though they would make sure that the users’ privacy is protected and any data that’s disclosed is done under proper legal process.

The Justice document includes sections about its own lawyers. For government attorneys taking cases to trial, social networks are a valuable source of info on defense witnesses.

The government also said that online networking and law could be a dangerous combination.

LinkedIn and Microsoft join hands to offer an add-on that integrates much of your LinkedIn contact information with your Outlook contacts. The add on is beneficial as when the member of LinkedIn send you an email Outlook will show a collapsible pane that will showcase all latest activity of the user on LinkedIn. The add-on will also show you the most recent professional information about a contact, most recent job and city.

The information which you can fetch from LinkedIn to Outlook are picture of contacts (which they placed at LinkedIn profile), recently connected person and last but not the least any status updates LinkedIn User has posted on the site.

Users can easily invite Linkedin members to connect within Outlook (but presently you cannot accept invitations, might be in future you can )

The add-on will ship with Microsoft 2010, but can be downloaded to work with Outlook 2003, and 2007. While social network has an Outlook toolbar that has been available for some time, this appears to be the first major partnership between LinkedIn and Microsoft.

LinkedIn’s Director of Product Development, Elliot Shmukler told that the key idea behind this partnership is to bring such product where LinkedIn professionals can do their work and Outlook has a fundamentally professional user base. Just few weeks back LinkedIn has joined hands with twitter also.
