According to the weekly Le Point, Vodafone could sell the “Superphone” Google before the end of the first quarter at a price below 200 euros for a unit purchased with a monthly package available to less than 50 euros, and engaging for two years.

The Nexus One will run on the search giant’s own android operating system. The users will have to buy cellular service for the device separately.

The assumptions are that the handset will be marketed in 2010 in the United States, and is not dependent on any operator.

The Nexus One will of course be in direct competition with Apple’s iPhone. It should of course not forget the BlackBerry, which are still in the race and complete the top three.

Google Blog told that the employees are “on android dogfood diet ” which means the company who has produced a product is using themselves too.

In the blogpost ( posted by Mario Queiroz, Vice President, Product Management) it has been informed that Google has recently came up with the concept of Mobile lab and this device is a combination of” innovative hardware from a partner (Google partner) with software that runs on Android to experiment with new mobile features and capabilities.” The blog was written by Quieroz’s after the blog the CNET TV Associate Producer Jason Howell, confirms on Twitter that the “mobile lab” device is an HTC phone running the Android 2.1 operating system.

The Wall Street Journal reported on its Web site late Saturday that Google would sell the phone directly to consumers rather than through carriers, which sell the bulk of mobile phones in the United States.

The phone is called the Nexus One and is being manufactured for Google by HTC Corporation. It runs Android, the operating system for mobile phones that Google developed.

Mario Queiroz, a Google vice president of product management, said the company had developed a “mobile lab” device that “combines innovative hardware from a partner with software that runs on Android.” According to Queiroz, Google has distributed the device to Google employees worldwide so that they could test the new technology and help improve it.

The Journal reports that Google will sell the Nexus One online and that users will have to purchase their cell service separately. That would indicate the device is an unlocked GSM handset, but it isn’t clear what carrier networks with which it will work. In the US, AT&T and T-Mobile use GSM.

The Nexus One may be an attempt by Google to borrow from the Apple playbook. Although the hardware is from HTC, rumors suggest that Google has dictated every last detail of the hardware specifications and is customizing the Android experience to be uniquely Google.

Although Google has not officially confirmed that it will sell the smartphone, the Wall Street Journal wrote that it could go on sale as early as next year.

Mere hours after Google posted a blog about an unnamed Android device that it gave its employees, the Wall Street Journal confirmed that the device will in fact be sold to consumers as the Nexus One. This is the real, actual, Google Phone, and it will be available in early 2010.

Google employees who asked not to be identified confirmed recently that the company was indeed developing new hardware and software for Android phones and coming up with new ways to get those phones into the hands of consumers, but they would not give more details. One Google employee said the new phone, which is being made by HTC, a major Taiwanese cellphone maker, was designed from the ground up by Google.

The Internet search leader may be sounding a challenge to wireless carriers such as Sprint and Verizon, as well as smartphone makers like Apple. It marks a departure for the leader in Web advertising, which has rarely sold devices directly to consumers.

The device will run Android version 2.1 and will run special software not available to current Android devices. The WSJ reports, “Google designed virtually the entire software experience behind the phone, from the applications that run on it to the look and feel of each screen.

TechCrunch says that a new phone “will be called the Google Phone” and will be sold directly by Google, independently of any wireless carrier.
