This year, all the major browsers were cracked within a minute which includes Firefox, IE8, and Safari. One browser was left standing Google Chrome. This browser is certainly getting a reputation of being solid, as researchers in the same competition last year were unable to do anything with Chrome either.

Dell’s blogpost disclosing about the new release makes it clear that the release may not be very stable and users should try it on their own risk

Another lag point with this release is that it takes up to 10 minutes for Chromium OS network connection manager to locate the access point to allow users to select and connect to the web. But yes wired connection would be much quicker.

Doug Anson, a technology strategist with Dell also discussed that the connection manager and underlying components can break easily or freezes so in case the situation appears reboot the system for giving it another chance.

This the experimental release not well supported but for sure there will be more to come.

Google has green signaled this upload flow of developers built extensions at this stage so that it would give them enough time to work on their extension ideas and publish them on Chrome extension gallery before the full launch of Chrome 4 beta. They have even announced that they will soon be heading forward to release the gallery to a small group of trusted testers who would feedback developers with a better insight and bug reports to help them polish their extensions.

Aviary Chrome Extension

Next major news comes with the Chrome extension is that Aviary, makers of browser-based creativity tools have launched a new chrome extension that allows users to do screen capture right in their browser.

Though at present it will currently work for people using the development build of Chrome (and will work for everyone else once Google releases the beta version of Chrome, with extensions support).

The new extension gives easy access to Aviary’s suite of tools for image editing. The image can be saved directly to desktop without having to save it to Aviary making it extremely fast and easy screen capture tool.

It lacks the support to capture full page (normally hidden until you scroll down) and it can’t capture flash content both of which are supported in Aviary Firefox extension.

Presently Windows users can browse with Chrome 4.0 version but Linux and Mac OS X fans only have access to a not so polished developer preview of the surfing tool. But now very soon Mac users will get beta launch for their OS.

Yet not so official announcement but through a Google’s Chromium Extension mailing list Google Chrome Product Manager Nick Baum indicated the arrival of Chrome for Apple Mac users.

In zeal to encourage developers from every platform Nick Baum urged them to swap to the extension for new UI for BrowserAction. He said “We’ve noticed that many of you have updated your extensions to take advantage of the new UI. We’d like to encourage the rest of you to do so as well! Why make the switch now? The earlier you switch, the more time you will have to polish your experience for our Beta launch in early December. We realize this means dropping Mac support for a couple of weeks, but we already have people working on that.”

Adding browser actions to Chrome will put icons in the main Google Chrome toolbar, to the right of the address bar. In addition to its icon, a browser action can also have a tooltip, a badge, and a popup, all this to make your browsing experience very user friendly.

Although to enable Native Client or NaCl for windows users will have to follow a set of instructions but once enabled the new version promises a better web browsing experience.

NaCl, an open-source technology developed for running X86 native codes in web applications, with the goal of maintaining the browser neutrality, OS portability, and safety that people expect from web apps also aims to help developers to create richer and more dynamic browser-based applications.

Jonathan Conradt, a Google engineering program manager, described in a blog post about various APIs that this version includes. Although this was earlier available as a plug-in, improved version includes for all platform “Remove Items” for download item context menu and now Omnibox recognizes Zeroconf .local hosts.
