Apple is increasing its presence in China :The sale of Apple iPad has barely begun and now the iPhone4 comes in the wake .Apple is introducing the iPhone 4 in China Saturday, Sept. 25, while pursuing the opening of new stores (four Apple Stores set up Beijing and Shanghai with 25 expected by the end of the year).

A strategic geographic market under its population of over one billion people, 420 million Internet users, 800 million mobile phone users .According to preliminary prices provided by AFP prices iPhone 4 are higher than the United States, the equivalent of 569 euros for the model smartphone with a capacity of storage to 16 gigabytes and 683 euros for 32GB version.T

he official launch of the iPhone 4 will also be provided by China Unicom, the third operator in the country and official partner of Apple. Knowing that the Apple brand will have to deal with informal channels of distribution (illegal imports from Hong Kong or abroad).

The iPhone 4 should also take account of local competition as the ophone manufacturer Lenovo. The latest smartphone from Apple came just after the introduction of theiPad in China (see Gizmodo article on this).

Again, Lenovo has provided a response on the market shelves with LePad Android, expected to arrive by the end of the year.

An iPad second generation will knock in the year 2011

According to DigiTimes, Apple iPad prepare a second generation for the first quarter of 2011. Hard to get more details on the new version of the multimedia touch pad in the current state but the competition wakes up to glean market share as Samsung (Galaxy Tab) or Dell (Streak).

Samsung Electronics, the South Korean Company launched its smartphone, Galaxy S in China. This move is aimed to give tough competition to the Finnish giant, the global leader, Nokia, in the world’s largest market. Samsung said in a statement today,
the phone will be offered by China Telecom Corp., China Mobile Ltd. and China Unicom (Hong Kong) Ltd..

3 million units of the Galaxy S were sold globally, Samsung said in a statement. Samsung said that with Galaxy S series, the company was aiming the high-income bracket in China. Nokia controls 40 percent market share of the Chinese mobile phone market whereas, Samsung presently holds merely 25 percent.

China is the world’s largest mobile device market, with a total of 755 million mobile subscribers. This statement came last month according to the New York-based marketing researcher Nielsen Company.

JK Shin, President and Head of the Mobile Communications Business, said at the launch event held in Beijing, according to the press release, “China is one of the fastest growing mobile markets and offers great potential. I am very pleased to introduce Samsung Galaxy S, which has been customized for the needs of Chinese consumers.”

The Android-powered Galaxy S, featuring 4-inch Super AMOLED screen and a 1 GHz application processor, supports both CDMA and GSM networks for the China Telecom model, whilst integrating CDMA and GSM networks for the China Mobile device, the company said.

Samsung launched the Galaxy S first in its home turf of South Korea in June, with a motive to derive a strong foothold in the lucrative smartphone segment, presently conquered by Apple Inc.’s iPhone.

The U.S. Internet titan Google announced on Friday, July 9 that China had renewed its license that had expired at the end of June, enabling it to operate on the largest Internet market in the world.

“We have obtained the renewal of the license,” said the spokesman for Beijing-based Google, Marsha Wang. “We are delighted to continue to provide products and services to our users,” she added.

The renewal of the license comes after a period of uncertainty and a long standoff with the Chinese government. Google had decided in March not to censor its Chinese site and upload it to Hong Kong google.com.hk.

Google’s renewal application deadline was June 30. However, last week, just before the deadline for the annual review, Google announced a new “approach” in China, changing its system to stop censoring its search engine, in an attempt to meet the demands of Chinese authorities. Presently, all Internet users in mainland China are headed on a new page of google.cn, a website in China which now has links with the Hong Kong site.

China is the largest Internet market in the world with over 400 million users, according to official figures.

After Beijing in 2008 it’s now Shanghai, the heart of the financial district, the Californian Company, Apple Inc., plans to open its second flagship store in China. The inauguration will take place on Saturday one week after the Apple Store opened in Paris in the Opera district. Apple Store is located at the IFC Mall in the shadow of the Oriental Pearl Tower (which is the symbol of the economic capital of China).
The store entrance is through a huge glass cylinder in the middle of a plaza. It has nothing to envy the great glass cube that Apple has installed on 5th Avenue in New York. Two other Apple store should open in Shanghai and the Cupertino Company announced its intention to open 25 by the end of next year.
This new store is one of the largest out of all the Apple stores. By getting right into the speedily mounting consumer electronics market, they are heading towards becoming “the world’s biggest mobile phone market”.

Foxconn has raised pay among Chinese workers by around 30% in a move which it claims have been on the cards for a while, and have nothing to do with the recent string of suicides.

In recent days some journalists (at least 8, according to sources) working in China and Taiwan have reported that their account- Mail Yahoo! were inaccessible and had been abused or tampered with. Among them is a freelance Kathleen McLaughlin and Andrew Jacobs , New York Times correspondent in Beijing. As in the case of Google, many are suggesting an involvement of the government of Beijing , a situation fueled by the fact that some journalists were affected by the following issues near “sensitive” to the Chinese authorities.

Some journalists active in China and Taiwan have suffered attacks on their email account Yahoo. The story of Google is repeated? The script has already seen mail accounts that are locked and suffer attacks in China . Only this time the victim is not Google but Yahoo! , and in particular its electronic mail service.

In particular, a reporter said that his service had been reset so that all mail was also sent to another address, unknown to him .

The signal was collected and amplified by the FCCC , the ‘ Association of Foreign Correspondents in China . At present, however, you cannot say with certainty what is the origin of the attacks violated what accounts are still under analysis by experts.

For its part, Yahoo! has not yet given official comments on Ac, merely “to condemn attacks whatever their purpose and their origin” .

Meanwhile, the FCCC has recommended to all Yahoo users to change passwords , and avoid at least temporarily to communicate via e-mail personal and business information .We are facing the prelude to another “Google case”?

After Google’s investigation, it was noted that about 20 other large companies that included Yahoo, were the cyber attack targets in China.

Kathleen McLaughlin, a freelance journalist in Beijing, one of the affected people in the cyber attack reported to Reuters, that she was unable to access her account since March 25. Her access was restored on Wednesday.

Several other journalists in China and Taiwan were also found with the same problem. They told Reuters that whenever they tried to access, a message always showed up saying- “We’ve detected an issue with your account”.

The compromised accounts include those of the World Uyghur Congress, an exile group that China accuses of inciting separatism by ethnic Uighurs in the frontier region of Xinjiang.

There aren’t any substantial details to prove or state whether the attack on Coonan’s account was just small part of larger conspiracy.

Andrew Jacobs of the New York Times in Beijing said on Wednesday his Yahoo Plus account had been set, without his knowledge, to forward to another, unknown, account.

Earlier, several human rights activists and journalists who work related to China had similarly discovered their Gmail accounts had been set to forward to unfamiliar addresses, without their knowledge.

Google had then cited these Gmail attacks as one of the reasons behind its decision to move its service out of China.

But it is yet to be seen how Yahoo react to this whole issue as Yahoo has a lot of attachment with China considering its ownership of several Internet properties.

“Yahoo! condemns all cyber attacks regardless of origin or purpose,” spokeswoman Dana Lengkeek said in an email response to a Reuters query.
Dana further added that Yahoo was committed to protecting user security and privacy and it would take appropriate action in the event of any kind of breach.
Hao Xiaoming, a China media expert at Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information in Singapore, commented that China’s control of the Internet and media has intensified under the current leadership and reflects a lack of understanding of the Chinese public.

Hao also said that China’s Internet had become a controlled Internet, an internal Internet rather than linked internationally. It defeated the whole purpose.
