Apple Inc. is now opening its wings to have a green flight. After getting success with its Macs, iPhones, iPods Apple has also started focusing in a green direction minimizing its carbon emission and making its products more eco-friendly. Ironical to the situation of the fruit with which they share their name as a green Apple means it is yet not fully ripe but the firm which is already developed but is getting green now.
In a move towards this direction company launched a new section of it Web Site named Apple and the Environment picturing several categories including company’s carbon emission, Life Cycle Impact, Product Usage Impact, and Product Environmental Reports, information regarding elimination of toxic substances from its machines. It will show company’s environmental updates also.

Web site section also includes Apple’s recycling program designed to guide users to send in their iPod, iPhones or Mac. Mac owners can recycle their old systems for free with purchase of any new system in an Apple store.

Apple had been scuffed by environmentalists several times on account of usage of toxic chemicals in its products. They showed a poor response of 2.7 rating out of 10 in 2006, for being environmentally friendly. But the scene is different now.

According to the reports of BusinessWeek, Apple has replaced PVC, the additive that gives computer cables their flexibility with a “special blend” of polyester. Apple’s products are also free of BFR, mercury, arsenic, and lead, mainly due to the fact that glass and aluminums are used across the company’s product line.

In terms of power management, according to Apple, Mac OS X even regulates the processor in between keystrokes, saving power.

The detailed analysis of carbon emission for the entire life cycle of each of its products reveals a startling result claiming manufacturing unit and product usage as the major producers of carbon emissions. While Manufacturing (includes everything from the extractions of raw materials up to final product assembly) accounts for 38 percent of Apple’s carbon emissions on the other hand use of its products over a standard lifetime—4 years for a Mac or 3 years for an iPod or iPhone—accounts for a whopping 53 percent of the carbon emissions, While Transportation of its product, maintaining its facilities, recycling account for 9 percent of the company’s 10.2 million metric tons of yearly carbon emissions.

Apple will continue to be green in many more ways:
•	By the end of this year, the company will run its Cork, Ireland, and Elk Grove, California operations completely on renewable energy sources.
•	Its Austin, TX offices use renewable energy as well.
•	The company also provides incentives to use public transportation instead of driving in to work, including running biodeisel-fuled busses that transport as many as 600 employees per day.
•	reduce the energy consumption of its products,
• reduce the materials used to make them,
•	reduce the amount of packaging they require.
•	all MacBook Pro models feature displays with mercury-free backlighting and arsenic-free glass.”
•	company also requires its manufacturing partners to maintain “environmentally responsible manufacturing processes.”

The Green move of Apple can place it higher in the line of its competitors crowning it as globally concerned and vigilant firm. Apple will surely get the support of people but may be only until they don’t increase their price too high. These cautious steps of company proves the company’s believes in “well done is better than well said “.
