The initial inspiration of Square came from McKelvey who is the friend of Jark Dorsey, the co- founder of twitter hopefully launches Square this week. The square is completely a new product that will allow the mobile handsets to scan credit cards. In a recent interview with Dorsey in The Los Angeles Times, Dorsey discloses that he has plans to give away free Squares to anyone who signs up for a Square account
The square software is right now compatible with Apple iPod and iPod touch but soon the efforts will turn to reality and his new software will be available for various mobile platform
The new software square could be turbulent and low- priced substitute to highly priced point-of-sale (POS) credit card devices.
The Square comes as a amazing small unit about the size of a postage stamp that plugs into the headphone jack of various smart phones, multi media players and computers. Users can swipe their cards into the mobile handsets, and then authenticate the transaction by touching the mobile device’s touch screen. Users can request for an e-mail or SMS text with a link to the transaction receipt, too.
The website ‘Squareup’ informs that this new device will not store the private information given on the
credit card information and the biggest advantage is that the registered users can also submit photos that would flash on a mobile device to confirm their identities.
If you are a repeated customer for any buying than also the information will be flashed by square. The square will also help humanity by giving users an option to donate a penny from every transaction they made to their preferred charity.
Has it occurred to anyone that an unscrupulous person could “accidently” bring up a sound recorder app and record the audio from the dongle, then sell it on the internet or play it into another device that has the Square app installed.
This square app encrypts the data. It should take about 12 hours for some bright hacker to either hack into the Square software or build an app from scratch that will convert the audio file to a text file that contains all the information from the mag strip.
Of course they will need the dongle. Wait I have a MP3 to cassette adaptor in my car that has a read head and an audio plug… I wonder…
