Speed Bumps Causing Lot of Damage to vehicles

Speed Bumps Causing Lot of Damage to vehicles – Today, under new government proposals, the death of the speed bumps have been signaled at least in 20mph zones. Road humps, speed bumpers have been often picked apart by motoring organizations for causing lot of damage to vehicle suspensions and tyres.

Now, councils will be permitted to put in some go slow zones without any need to install traffic calming measures like any sleeping policeman and guards. This time, the measure has been considered as a part of Government’s move for more 20 mph zones, following research representing that they lower road fatal accidents by more than 40%.

Backed by traffic calming measures like humps and bumps, councils wishing to launch 20mph schemes on varied groups of roads have had to do that in zones. Now, the department for transport had to re think, after a successful trial in Portsmouth where 20mph limits were inserted without any humps.

The road safety minister Mr. Paul Clark stated, “The number of people killed and seriously injured on Britain’s roads has fallen by 40% since the mid-1990s and Britain now has the joint safest roads in the world. But too many pedestrians and cyclists – including many children – are still being killed or hurt on the roads around their homes and schools. We have seen that 20 mph zones with traffic calming measures can make a real difference to the safety of local roads. But we’ve also looked at the latest research and listened to councils and residents who want to introduce 20mph limits on a series of roads where physical traffic calming measures aren’t possible or practical.”

Also, granting councils to insert 20mph limits on more number of streets without any speed humps will mean that they can let them at much less cost and also with less inconvenience to local occupants. As per a recent report, limiting 20 mph zones in London had contributed to a spectacular reduction in number of accidents. By February 5, the department has been planning to call on more local authorities to react and reply to its new proposals for hump free 20mph zones. Also, it has been expected that new counsel will be issued later in year 2010.

Emergency vehicle drivers have also arrogated that the devices slow them down when they are reacting to emergency calls. Focusing on national speed limit single carriageway A and B roads where approx. 41% accidents occur, by the year 2011, the government will be regenerating its calls for councils to carry out speed limit reviews regarding their rural roads. Along with this, DfT is also stating to local authorities that they must deal with lowering down the limit on the most dangerous and life threatening roads, where this will have an essential affect on fatal accidents and other casualties.
